Lighting in my Thriller
Lighting was an important aspect of our thriller film, this was important as we needed to distinguish between real life, present time scenes and the flasbacks/memories that were occuring. At the beginning of our thriller film, Toby is seen to be smoking and ambient lighting is being used as he outside in the natural light as it was a sunny day at the time. After this shot of Toby smoking, we edited our film so that the remainder up until the end scene where we repeated the first shot of Toby smoking, is in black and white (classic noir thriller). We planned to put the this large section of our film in black and white as it easily establishes that what is about to happen was a flashback and memory from the POV of Toby. Another reason why this black and white effect was effective is because on the days of our filming, we saw that it was a fairly sunny and bright day and we wanted to create a more dark scene which was more dull and grey instead of bright and cheerful, the noir effect helped us to make this light less prominant and darken the scenes.
This is the lighting when it has switched to black and white so signify a memory that Toby was having.

Well done for uploading your posts on lighting and the casting of characters.
ReplyDeleteYou could add elements of this post into Question 1 of your thriller or keep for question 6 when you will be discussing what you've learned about editing effects such as colour alteration.
